Book study spaces
Whether you need an individual desk or a group study room, you can book a study space in the Library. Discover what spaces are available, the booking guidelines, behaviour expectations and helpful safety information.

To save time finding somewhere to study in the Library, UNSW students can book a study space at Main Library and Law Library. Check the terms and conditions below.
What spaces are available to book?
The Library offers a variety of study spaces to suit individual student study needs.
Library building maps - Locate our spaces and facilities with the mobile directory for Main Library and Law Library.
Desk availability screens - Main Library and Law Library screens show unoccupied desks but don't show which desks are booked.
Individual study
- Individual desks include some height-adjustable desks for comfort and accessibility.
- Desks with computers for online research and study.
- Desks with monitors to connect your laptop for extended screen space.
- Desks on Level 7 (Main Library), dedicated for silent study.
- Postgraduate desks (Main Library), reserved for postgraduate students only.
Collaborative spaces
- Media booths (Main Library) for viewing DVDs and multimedia from Library collection.
- Study rooms, booths or pods designed for group work and collaboration.
- Most rooms have LCD screens and whiteboards.
- Postgraduate rooms (Main Library) reserved for postgraduate students only.
How does it work?
Choose a study space that suits your needs. Follow our quick guide to booking your desk or group study room.
- Book easily: Plan ahead and book up to two weeks in advance. If a space is not in use, you can book it on the spot using the QR code at the space.
- Check details: Check individual desk and room details (select the Info button or individual space) for current capacity, conditions, equipment availability and specific furniture, e.g. some rooms contain high furniture.
- Booking limits:
- Individual bookings can be made for up to four hours (minimum 30 mins).
- Total bookings are limited to up to four hours per day for media booths, study rooms, study booths and study pods.
- Running late: Don't worry, you can arrive up to 15 minutes after your booking starts before it is available for anyone to use.
- Someone is in your booked space: Show them your booking confirmation email.
- Cancelling your booking: Use the link in your confirmation email to cancel before your booking starts.
- Need help: During Library staff hours, if you find any problems with the space or require further assistance, please contact us or UNSW Security outside staffed times.
Personal belongings, conduct and safety
To ensure a safe and respectful environment for everyone:
- Respect shared spaces: Keep noise to a minimum in quiet areas and vacate areas when your booking ends.
- Care for equipment and spaces: Remove rubbish and personal items, leave Library equipment in place and report any faults when finished.
- Keep belongings safe: Do not leave personal items unattended or reserve spaces by leaving your belongings on desks or chairs.
- Report unattended property: Contact Library staff or security if you notice unattended belongings.
Terms and conditions of use
- Students can book for their own use only, not on behalf of others.
- Bookings are forfeited if you do not take possession within 15 minutes of the booking start time.
- If you no longer require your booking, allow someone else to book the study space. Please cancel your booking prior to the reserved time via the link in your email.
- Once a booking has been made, an email confirmation will be sent to your UNSW account. Please retain this email to show as proof of booking or to cancel your booking if required.
- Library spaces must be left safe, neat and tidy.
- Personal belongings left unattended will be removed and taken to lost property.
- Check your belongings and power cables do not obstruct walkways or exits.
- UNSW Library may contact you via your UNSW email address to discuss your feedback on the book a study space service.
- Library study spaces are for the use of UNSW students for learning and research activities only.
- Reserving a room for any other activity should be discussed with Library staff in the first instance. It is strictly prohibited to use the rooms for commercial purposes.
While in the Library
