Visiting the Library
Members of the public and UNSW Library members may visit UNSW Library during regular Library opening hours to access facilities and collections on site. You can plan your visit using public transport or use the limited paid parking available on campus.
To make photocopies or scan, purchase a photocopy card from the Print/Copy Services desk Level 2 Main Library.
Visiting academics and university students registered with eduroam from your home institution, may access the eduroam Wi-Fi network while on campus. You do not need to become a Library member.
University visitors may use your personal device to access the UNSW guest Wi-Fi service.
A valid membership is required to:
- borrow items
- requests for some print collection, storage and multimedia items are only available to current UNSW staff and students and some Library memberships
- interlibrary loans (ILL) service is available to current UNSW staff, postgraduate and honours students
- laptop loans are available to current UNSW students only
- access Library computers and online resources
- some resources are only available to current UNSW staff and students
- some memberships can access online resources only when using the Library desktop computers (no remote or home access)
- book study spaces - available to current UNSW students only.
UNSW conjoint staff
To access the Library, UNSW conjoint staff need to:
- apply for a staff card through Estate Management
- contact UNSW IT to set up a zID and zPass.
You can then use your UNSW staff ID card to borrow Library items and access online resources.

Become a UNSW Library member
If you are not a current UNSW staff or currently enrolled student, you can apply to become a Library member.
You will receive an email when your Library membership card is ready for collection. Collect your card from the Help Zone, Main Library. Please bring current valid photo ID for sighting by Library staff.

Expiry date
One year from the date of your application or on the termination date of your employment (if less than one year).
Required documents
- Current photo ID
- Proof of address (for example on your photo ID or a phone bill)
- A letter signed by your faculty or department on letterhead providing:
- your name
- in what capacity you are working or researching
- length of time you are working with the faculty or department
- a statement of indemnity.
A statement of indemnity may be worded as follows:
"The Faculty or Department of ----- agrees to indemnify UNSW Library against all losses, costs and expenses incurred by reason of the member named above failing to observe the rules and conditions of membership of the Library".
UNSW students who have graduated or have completed their program and are eligible for graduation may apply for Library alumni membership.
Note: The Alumni and External Engagement Office offers remote access to a limited number of databases for UNSW Alumni. Library membership is not required for this free service.

Three years from the date of your application.

- Current photo ID
- Proof of address (either on your photo ID or on a phone bill, etc.)
- Proof of your alumni status (one of the following):
- Any academic record demonstrating you are a UNSW graduate.
- email confirmation from the alumni team verifying that you are a UNSW graduate.

- NIDA ID card
Your university must be an eligible Universities Libraries Australia & New Zealand (ULANZ) member.

- Staff - no fees apply
- Students - $55.00 per annum (includes GST)

- Proof of current enrolment/employment from your university e.g. letter of enrolment/employment
Fees
- Community members - $198.00 per annum (includes GST)
- Retired UNSW staff - $99.00 per annum (includes GST)
