Finding UNSW theses

UNSW theses / dissertations in electronic format can be located via UNSWorks. More information on UNSWorks can be found in UNSWorks guidelines

For older print theses, search for a title or keywords including the term unsw and refine your results by selecting Refine my results > Resource type > Dissertations in the column on the left.

Only copies of UNSW PhD or Masters by Research theses are held at UNSW Library. For honours theses, contact the UNSW faculty, school or the author directly.

UNSW Library is currently digitising the UNSW print thesis collection. Search for digitised theses in UNSWorks. To search for specific theses within UNSWorks, select the ADVANCED SEARCH, leave the search subject set-up as it is and add your search terms.

Finding Australian and international theses

To find Australian and international theses, search via:

Library collection
To find theses, search for a title or keywords. Refine your results by selecting Refine my results > Resource type > Dissertations in the column on the left.

Trove - Australian print and digital theses
Trove includes theses at all levels, including PhD, masters and honours. Click Show Filters to add your search terms to the pre-defined search limiting the results to print and online Australian theses.

ProQuest dissertations & theses global
ProQuest dissertations & theses global is a comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses from around the world, including works from 1743 to the present day including full text for graduate works added since 1997, along with selected full text for works written prior to 1997.

EThOS e-theses online service
EThOS is a free research tool that accesses UK doctoral research.

CNKI: China doctoral dissertation/masters theses full text database
CMFD gives access to full text doctoral dissertations and master’s theses from a selection of major universities in China.

Ordering theses

Due to the current situation with COVID-19, the Library can only process requests for non-UNSW theses that can be supplied from electronic resources.

Request the purchase of a thesis that is not available online:

  • Check the details of the thesis you require via ProQuest dissertations and theses global (includes doctoral dissertations and masters theses, including universities in the UK and Ireland)
  • UNSW staff and eligible students may sign into myLibrary and and select  Interlibrary Loan Service in the top main menu section to request theses not held in the collections at UNSW Library (Sydney) and Academy Library (Canberra).
