Fines

How do I avoid fines?

To avoid fines we would recommend the following:

  • Return borrowed items by the due date.
  • Ensure that the items on loan to you are returned to the Library before travelling away from Sydney.
  • Keep your due date receipt as a reminder and keep your contact details up to date.
  • Review myLibrary regularly and check your email for Library notifications. These notifications are sent to your official UNSW email address (staff & students) or the email address specified on your application form (non-UNSW users).

Use myLibrary to:

  • check when your loans are due
  • renew loans before they become overdue
  • check if any loans have been recalled

If you have any questions regarding fines, please submit an Ask a question form.

Note: Library notifications are sent as a courtesy only and are not a substitute for checking myLibrary regularly.

General conditions for fines

Your borrowing privileges will be suspended until you have returned your overdue items. Once your Library fees reach $20 or if you are blocked from Student services by the University, your borrowing privileges will be suspended as well.

If you return overdue items outside of staffed library hours, you may not be able to borrow again until the next working day.

Lost item replacement costs will be applied to all items that are 30 days overdue. If an item is replaced within two weeks of paying the lost item replacement costs, the replacement fee will be refunded but not the administration fee.
