Statistics are published on the web and in print publications.
Publishers include:

  • federal and state governments
  • international agencies
  • private entities
  • membership organisations

Recording of statistics is sometimes mandated by law, but in other instances, is entirely voluntary. Even required government statistics often change over the years.

The best strategy for finding statistics is to identify the stakeholders (governments, companies, organisations) and do a thorough search of their publications and web pages.

The Statistics Subject Guide suggests a number of sources to start your statistical research.
