What is an EndNote library?
An EndNote library is a database that stores your references. These references can link to your word processing documents to create in-text citations and bibliographies. EndNote libraries have a file extension of .enl. In order to begin using EndNote, you will need to create a library, or open an existing library.
Creating an EndNote library
Click on File > New…
Enter a name for your library.
Click on Save.

Opening an EndNote library
Click on File > Open > Open Library…

Click on the library that you wish to open (EndNote's standard software installation includes a sample library called PALEO in the "Examples" folder).
Click on Open.

NOTE: When you launch EndNote it will automatically prompt you to open a library. Select the library that you wish to use and click on Open. If you do not wish to open a library, click on Cancel.
