  What is a filter file?
Information saved from different databases appear in different formats (see figure 11 below). Hence you will need to use the appropriate filter file in order to import the data correctly into your EndNote library. To choose the correct filter, you will need the name and provider of the database from which you saved your results (eg. Current Contents - OVID). The filters will instruct EndNote to sort the information from the saved file into the appropriate fields eg. Authors into the Author field, Titles into the Title field, etc..

Getting filter files not available in EndNote 6
If the filter that you require is not available, you can download them from other sites. Filters for the majority of Australian databases (eg. APAIS) are not included with the standard installation of EndNote 6. Follow the instructions below to copy existing filters to your list. If the following sites do not have the filter that you require, please feel free to contact library staff.

Open the website with the additional filter file(s).
Right-click on the filter file (these files have an extension of .enf).
Click on Save Target As...
Enter a file name (its best to call it the name of the database and provider eg. Medline_Ovid.enf).
Select the Filter folder to save the file to (with the standard installation of EndNote, this should be C:\Program Files\EndNote\Filters\).
Click on Save.
